Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir), May 26 (ANI): Devotees, cutting across religious lines, thronged the shrine of Sufi saint Syed Neik Reshi in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar on Friday to commemorate his death anniversary. People visited the shrine and offered prayers to seek blessings of the saint. Devotees offered prayers as the shrine resounded with recitations of Quranic verses. People prayed for peace and tranquility in northern Jammu and Kashmir which has seen a resurgence in violence this year. Urs is observed to mark the death anniversary of any departed saintly figure. Video shot by state media KCNA that could not be verfied by Reuters showed men, women and children in Pyongyang bowing in front of the statues as a sign of respect. A flower ornament in the name of the isolated state's leader Kim Jong-un, was also displayed. Kim Il-Sung led his country from its founding in 1948 through the 1950-53 Korean War and until he died in 1994. His son, Kim Jong-il, then took over.
