The commentary is written and said by Don Kent. Here is the translation of this extract : 'Towards the end of the fifties,a young lorry driver from Memphis caused a hurricane that crossed the Atlantic. It was destined to shake up many things in the country in general - and in me in particular. I don't know if Elisabeth listened to Elvis' first 78s, but I can still remember my geography teacher's reaction to my new look : "My God, Kent , what has happened to you." '

Amera Andersen - Blue Suede Shoes

It all started when I rented that house. My life had changed as I opened the door, the chills in my bones, I felt through my blouse, ‘twas built in the fifty’s down by the shore. Things seemed to change as I walked in that place, the era had jumped for backwards it went. My mind became hazy in time and space, I felt more relaxed, I felt more content. I looked in the mirror to my surprise, a pretty young girl in a poodle skirt. A reflection of me in a different guise with bobby sox and a pretty white shirt. I went to the bedroom, hearing the blues and there stood Elvis in Blue Suede Shoes. Amera Andersen http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/blue-suede-shoes/

Tania Montgomery - Tribute to the King

There's a throne that's safely kept, it's for all the tears that were wept And I believe your 'Blue Suede Shoes' fit the bill You've been gone a long long time and we've always had you on our mind So the throne belongs to you and always will I'll dream of 'Loving You', waking up to not much new Except the crown you wore so well, fit for a King with stories to tell 'Today, Tomorrow & Forever, ' 'I'll Remember You' You're a legend, just one of a kind, there's no replacement we'll ever find There's no King to come close to you, no-one to fit in those 'Blue Suede Shoes' From all the visitors who've entered the gates of Graceland The gates should be blue, cause they're all missing you And every year your name is spoken, from all who's hearts have broken So to Elvis whom we all admire, that voice that had our souls on fire Thanks for telling your stories, your humbled heart filled with glory May you rest in peace, may you forever remain our King Cause as long as we have life, we'll play your songs just to hear you sing I remember that day well, you joined your mother in a place to dwell You're probably singing 'How Great Thou Art' We'll never forget your grace and that special smile upon your face And the way you told it all straight from your heart Tania Montgomery http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/tribute-to-the-king/

Leah Ayliffe - Overcast Song

I'm so sick and tired of singing the same song. It’s summer and it’s raining on us baby, How high are we today? Pretty, all lit up, I don’t need to jump. The rings got smaller and boy you know, My hips can’t get through anymore. Maybe they’re fit for another woman. And no sugar blue, these diamonds were made for these slender fingers of mine, Like your last pack of cigarettes, I’m keeping them. Palm trees shade my black heart, Only eyelash silhouettes speak in the orange dawn. Sitting by swampy green pools and I’m not alone, Neither are you my dear friend, we’d like to think so. Hat down, gotch your cool shades on, Cigar dwindling on your sour lips, For no reason other than a gangster fantasy. You stand there handsome and jazzy like Elvis, In his blue suede shoes. And you say often, cause you know it sounds sweet to my ears: Thank you, thank you very much darlin’. This time you do not get to leave the building. This time I’m taking you down. Our darkest desires arising, I softly sing hush hush, my love, In the grey morning sky of nothing dreamy. I reach for your hundred dollar bills, Gasping, I sing for glory. There's nothing more glamorous than an innocent bad girl, Lined with gold and white hearts. I get so damn tired singing the same song. Leah Ayliffe http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/overcast-song/

Carl Perkins BLUE SUEDE SHOES

Well, it's one for the money, Two for the show, Three to get ready, Now go, cat, go. But don't you step on my blue suede shoes. You can do anything but lay off of my Blue suede shoes. Well, you can knock me down, Step in my face, Slander my name All over the place. Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh, Honey, lay off of my shoes Don't you step on my Blue suede shoes. You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes. You can burn my house, Steal my car, Drink my liquor From an old fruitjar. Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh, Honey, lay off of my shoes Don't you step on my blue suede shoes. You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

Peya Jakob - I Visited Dreams

I am sorry that we no longer speak, and you no longer care. It hurts that we can never kiss, because you are no longer there. I live a life of dreams, my stary eyed stare, longs for the only place where you still care, And thus i spend my torrid eternity, walking the dreams of humanity. I visited the dream of Martin Luther King and he had a dream. I visited the dream of Elvis Presley and no one stepped on his blue suede shoe. I visited the dream of william shakespeare just as romeo danced with juliet, and woke up in a dream where i danced with you. Peya Jakob http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-visited-dreams/

Pop culture goes on sale

If you've ever wanted your very own piece of pop culture, auction company "Gotta Have It" is now making it possible. The New York-based shop has placed nearly 700 lots up for grab on its website in a sale called "The Rock & Roll Pop Culture Auction". The store's CEO and founder, Peter Siegel, expects a dress worn by Princess Diana and items from Elvis Presley to be among the top lots. SOUNDBITE: Peter Siegel, CEO and founder of Gotta Have It, saying (English): "We've had one or two dresses that was actually worn by Princess Diana that came out of the Christie's auction a few months before she passed away and they all sold for six-figures, pretty close to $200,000 (USD) a dress. Again we are honored to have one at this auction here, that was in that sale - so we probably think that that could do the best. I love the shoes, I mean to me the blue suede shoes signed is just amazing, 'Jailhouse Rock' costume is again very iconic. So it's hard to say, in the past auctions we had, we've had some real surprises and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these items set some records." Other paper collectables include Don Henley's handwritten working lyrics for the classic Eagles' song "Hotel California". And what is believed to be the earliest acquired handwritten letter from Paul McCartney, which features 23 signatures and various drawings. Several items relating to Michael Jackson are also featured in the sale, including a child-sized train ride once used at Neverland Ranch. SOUNDBITE: Peter Siegel, CEO and founder of Gotta Have It, saying (English): "He used to take the children on and have a good time on that, so it really covers the gamete, pretty much all over for collectors out there." The online auction will take place from March 19th to March 30th. Alicia Powell, Reuters.
