wAFF - COCOON PODCAST - November 2014

We reallly happy to present you a podcast of one of our Cocoon Recordings artists --->>>> wAFF His new "FREEKS" release is available at beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/freeks/1389687 more about wAFF: Still only in his early 20’s, UK based DJ and producer wAFF has an undeniable talent that far exceeds his years. His musical passion and mind-boggling affinity with computer production software, sees him surgically attached to his laptop 90% of his waking hours, with the other 10% being spent delving into the music back catalogues of his hero’s and influences Loco Dice, Tania Vulcano, Martin Buttrich, Luciano and Marco Carola. Co-founder of long established Northern clubnight Koala, wAFF has played host to DJs the likes of Matt Tolfrey, Yaya, Glimpse, Subb-an, Nico Lahs and Jordan Peak in his mission to bring quality techno and house music to his native East Yorkshire. He has also seen his Koala venture take off in Ibiza with a two season run of hugely successful boat parties. Not only resident at his own night, wAFF has spent years playing for fellow hometown promoters Different Language as one half of Sona Sound with friend and co-collaborator Pete Batty, a venture that has seen him share deckspace with DJs the likes of Nick Curly, Simon Baker, Hobo, Audiojack, Sebo K, to name a few. With a varied and progressive DJing career under his belt, it’s wAFF’s thriving back catalogue of techno and deep house productions that will see his name shoot to the forefront of the electronic music scene in 2012. Kicking things off aged seventeen on the production programme Fruity Loops, his technical ability progressed at speed before he progressed onto Ableton, a step which has much deepened the intensity and professional flair of his recent work and resulted in his first ever EP being signed to the globally revered and respected label Hot Creations.

4. 1 Sam Paganini Body to Body

1 Sam Paganini Body to Body

Samuel "Sam" Paganini is not a real newcomer anymore. After all, he produces great tracks for more than ten years now and also became an acknowledged DJ in Italy during this time. However, his career received an enormous boost since 2011 with his releases on Plus 8 and Drumcode, and now reaches a new height with his Cocoon Recordings debut. Compared to other releases, Paganini's 'Body To Body' EP draws a quite exceptional line. The title track "Body To Body" is downright breathing the late air of Electronic Body Music and lives on elements which would have also fit into "The House Of God" by DHS or into some of the more minimal works of Front 242. Gloomy, but still with hit potential – this is a rare mixture nowadays. Great! With "Fire In My Arms", Paganini is then slightly moving to more contemporary areas, more loop-based and more new school, but still a little gloomy – a very unique blend and maybe representing the typical "Paganini style" best! "Polyester", the most House-like track, is the true hit of this EP! Nice old-school snare rolls, driving 909 ride cymbals and sirens result in a kicking Acid feeling that clearly distinguishes from the EBM mood of the first track. Well done! The digital version contains two bonus tracks: "Hot" opens the doors to New School House as we know it most likely from labels like Cécille: rolling beats, hypnotic vocal scraps, all arranged in a very DJ-friendly way. The very powerful Chicago bass line of the second bonus track ("Paral-Lel") is fueling the dancefloor and siren and synth attacks, combined with compelling beats, result in peaktime music at its best!

8. Mark Broom SQ18 (Rave Mix) 3 min

Mark Broom SQ18 (Rave Mix) 3 min

Since the beginning of the Nineties, Mark Broom is an institution within the British Tech-House scene. As a DJ, the former London Eastender and now Norfolk resident Broom is rocking international clubs from the likes of the Fuse in Brussels or the Fabric in London for more than 20 years now, but especially his productions for Warp, R&S and Pure Plastic, the label he runs together with studio partner Dave Hill, have defined the hypnotic sound of a whole generation of British clubbers. After Broom has remixed tracks by Gennaro Le Fosse and Johannes Heil for Cocoon Recordings, it was now unquestionably time for a musical exclamation mark under his own name. And so, the Rave mix of "SQ18" is setting a hedonistic imperative for the club year 2012 right from the beginning, quite naturally interspersing a Mentasm rave signal after about three minutes within its driving Detroit Dub Techno, but never conveys the sense of nostalgic mustiness. Well, that's what you can justifiably call a Techno bomb! Next, with "Forward", Broom celebrates an opus that is a bit more rooted in the traditions of Detroit strings, that is reaching for the sky – a track where some people may inevitably think of, for instance, DJ Rolando's best tracks. In any case, with the sound boldness and the maximum of dancefloor service of those tracks, Broom puts the musical evolution of modern electronic dance music in a nutshell. For all digital DJs, there's a more deep version of "SQ18" included as a bonus track.

10. SVEN VÄTH - RITUAL OF LIFE (ADAM PORT 108 MIX) - COR12126

SVEN VÄTH - RITUAL OF LIFE (ADAM PORT 108 MIX) - COR12126

SVEN VÄTH - RITUAL OF LIFE (ADAM PORT 108 MIX) - COR12126 After touring the world like no other techno artist on this planet and focusing on his ibiza-parties and mix-cd-projects our most wanted techno shamen Sven Väth returns with a new 12" finally! Well, it's not really a new solo production to be honest as it is a remix-treat Sven received from Adam Port who fell in love with the 1993 classic "Ritual Of Life". The "Keine Musik" co-founder Adam Port was more than right to get deeper into this classic gem. The man who is moving in hyper-speed since his 2013 überhit "Our Fate" delivered a new approach that is close to perfection. Port took the original elements and turned them into a 2015 tech-house-bombshell that will definitely one of the anthems of the upcoming summer season. Hailing from Berlin Adam Port lives and produces straight-edge which seems to be an ideal match here in terms of re-creating the original vibe. He used similar tribal flavored beats like he did in his club monster "The American Dream" and merges them with the cool original asian-dub-atmosfear that refers perfectly to the sound and lifestyle of Sven Väth. This is not just a remix - it is an ovation to a great techno shamen. Port uses hypnotic beats mixed with mystic sounds and creates a very special spiritual vibe - a genuine musical journey that delivers one clear message: Dance until the morning sun! Although over 10 minutes long this remix is not a single second too long. If you ask us it could be even longe. Music like this could run all night long, especially if Sven Väth is behind the decks. This one makes us creep! Make sure to grab one of the few copies of this strictly limited release which comes as a single-sided green vinyl edition!

13. Tale of Us and Visionquest - Equilibrio

Tale of Us and Visionquest - Equilibrio

"L is for lover, O is for an offer, V you got to venture, E maybe forever."
