This was one of those films that was a pleasure to shoot.
Worked with great people all the way through the process from the Heads of Tourism Australia , The Ad Agency Clemenger BBDO Sydney where fantastic, through to all my crew.
Shot using RED DRAGON 6k, SHOTOVER Helicopter systems, Movi Rig.

Yamaha Australia gave me brand new WR450F's, 4 great riders and left me to do my thing.
The basic story (actual real story) is about 4 friends that used to ride and hang out with each other as kids, They reunite atop there favorite hill and riding area years later.
We shot this in New Zealand in the town of Queenstown. Using the RED EPIC 5k cameras and the SHOTOVER gyro helicopter system with my old mate Alfie Speight as pilot, And Queenstowns best First AD Mark (the Goat) Gillings.
Music was created by RAF at Jarsonic. http://www.jarsonic.com/
This video is for all the people that may never get the opportunity to fly around New York.

Wonderful job, Trusting client, Agency creatives let me go for it... minimal crew, great locations, awesome camera, Great team... Couldn't ask for a better job. I wish they were all like this.
Shot on the RED EPIC, Used Canon glass (Just for fun) , Aerials using the Shot Over gyro stabilised heli mount.
Creatives are always on the go, needing a tool that can adapt to their ever-changing projects. Watch as Director Mark Toia describes his major three requirements for a creative tool and why WEAPON 8K S35 is the camera that checks all of the boxes.
Image quality. Resolution is a critical component of image quality—giving cinematographers the option to reframe and resize each shot. The increased resolution in 8K gives users not only more dynamic range, but also more color grading to play with.
Ease of use. Not only are RED cameras easy to set up, they make it easy to capture the perfect shot. When capturing 8K RAW footage, shooters have the flexibility to correct color temperature and exposure in post without permanently altering the original image.
Size/weight. Cameras need to be reliable and versatile enough to adjust with each shoot. Whether capturing images using a held held configuration, from a helicopter above, or even underwater—WEAPON 8K S35 can easily adapt to any shooting scenario.

A dream job !
A friend calls me out of the blue and asks if I can create a 5 minute brand film for his company 2XU.
We ended up shooting 25 athletes in Australia and US, working in 23 locations in 14 days. MAD BUSY !!! but fun.
Due to the budget not being what I am use to, I didn't care, I had creative freedom with no clients or agency slowing us down, it was one of those projects rare projects where I could just go for it.
I decided then to put together a 3 man fast and furious camera dept together. We shot with a couple of RED DRAGON cameras and a Movi rig, keeping it all very simple, light and quick so I could spend more time on being creative, less time being slowed with heavy slow awkward gear.
We quite literally ran after athletes for hours on end day after day. We were all stuffed by the time we flew home, Ended up with a few stubbed toes and a pulled muscle in my shoulder, but it was a great shoot none the less.
A dream job in fact because I was the given a loose script and plenty of rope.
We were given a list of athletes and locations that we had never seen or spoke to before, we just had to make it all work irrespective of how good bad and ugly they may have been.
I have to say though that ALL the athletes were amazing to work with !
Having to visually communicate what 2XU compression actually does and how much better it is over it's competitors (which was another video altogether) yet at the same time focusing on making the products look fashionable and cool. Which wasn't hard at all as the 2XU products looked great on everyone. And with the amazing replies from athletes themselves, US Navy seals & AIS Scientists 2XU actually does what it claims.
2XU were amazing... having the trust to let me do what we do best. Which intern they end up getting 10X more from me.
Thanks Aidan and the 2XU team.
Post Production by Method Melbourne, Music by Nylon, Producer Hamish Mcdonald (Legend)
Camera company RED DIGITAL CINEMA followed me around for a few days filming me doing my thing and they created this mini doco of me.. Very flattering.
Thanks Everyone at RED in all the crew in Queenstown New Zealand.
I feel honorer.
When I first rode the MT09 i could not believe how easy it was to ride, So versatile !.So much power, but so easy to ride smoothly. Would make a great work bike, stunt bike, race bike, cruise bike... actually great for almost anything !. So impressed I was with its versatile, adaptable ways I decide to build the films idea around those points.
I wanted to show the bike actually doing what impressed me so much when I first rode it.
We shot this film using the RED EPIC. ( my weapon of choice for so many reasons as well ) Its another versatile & adaptable bit if kit. lenses used where all canon ranging from 14mm to 600mm. Reason for using CANON Glass over my ZIESS PL mounted glass is that I get bigger range of lens choices as well as its faster to use Canon glass that PL.
This was quite an ambitious shoot from the very start. With a limited budget (compared to the rest of the car world) and a big script, lots of smart thinking was put in place to bring this AD to life. Animal stunts are usually the unknown factor. You could spend hours, days trying to get a animal stunt working. Pretending to pull a horse out of a muddy bog was always going to be a challenge, And the last thing we all wanted was to hurt or stress the animal. Luckily we found an incredible horse wrangler in South Africa Cape Town by the name of Michelle Mazurkiewicz who is an amazing horse trainer. And Im going to say stunt woman as well as she had to climb in with the horse each stunt. Then dive under water to hide her self... ? Which I thought was mad, because I could have painted her out. She was awesome. The team built a huge wooden box with a ramp and stairs and buried it deep into the earth, the horse was coursed down the ramp into a narrow hall to which it found steps at the end to which it climbed out. Just steep enough for it to look like it struggled, but in fact it did it quite easily once the horse new how to climb out. A 3d rope was added to look as if it was being pulled by the car. We had to make sure we nailed the firs few takes before it became to easy looking on camera.
We also used one of the first CINEFLEX camera gyro gimbals able to take the RED EPIC. What amazed me is we used the zoom lens that was used on a 2/3 inche SONY video camera what blew me away was it covered 5k !!! We were all shocked and happy at the same time, because now we could get up to 2000mm from the air stabilised. The Crew where solid in Africa, At first they thought I was mad !!! and dreaming thinking I could shoot so many shots in one day... They were pleasantly surprised when we finished on time and to schedule each day. The art director Will Boyes put huge amounts of effort into the project and I was thankful he was with us. I kept my RED DRAGON camera configuration simple as we had to knock off about 60 different shots per day.
Thank you to the line producers from theshootinggallery.co.za in Cape town, And to Prashant at Production company100FRAMES in Mumbai India for the producing the project and inviting me to your crazy adventure. :)
Leica Cameras TVC. Shot and directed by Mark Toia.
The mission was to see if you could make a beautiful TV commercial in 24 hours.
Think of and idea that night, shoot in a 6 hour window, edit it, grade it, master it out to HD the next day.
This TVC was a test to see if it could be done.... It can.

This was one of those commercials that sadly lost it’s way, due to to many voices at the top. But that’s normal life in the advertising world.
I have no complaints as It’s nice to be asked to work on a such a premium brand in the first place.
So I decided to create a Directors Cut.
I was bought in to reinvigorate a commercial that was created a year earlier. I shot about 85% of this film, with some images coming from the Dubai Tourism archives and also from the fantastic people @Dubia Film and X Dubai.
As I Director / DOP I wish i could have shot the last 15% , but knowing that Film Dubai had contributed some amazing material it was silly for me not to use it.
This was a great job to be apart of. I turned it down 4 times, I pushed my schedule out over 4 months and the client still waited for me. It was a job I did not really want to do because I did not think it could be done properly in Jakarta. Also working for big global companies with many voices, and having two AD agencies at the same time on set... I really doubted that it was possible to do a good job. But mid way through pre production with PLUSH PICTURES in Jakarta, i quickly realized that the project was turning into something grand. I had a vision, but did not think Jakarta had the film experience to pull it off. I was gladly mistaken. All the crew and especially the art director WAIKI really bought there "A" game to the table. Everyone could see this turning into something big... everyone started to get behind it... The client and agency were letting me do my thing and did not get in the way at all. We ended up with a great TV Commercial that everyone is proud of. My thanks goes out to all involved. Great work guys... Jakarta's film industry just stepped up to international levels.
I shoot around the world alot, and am spoiled with gear and choice... I was really impressed with the effort everyone put in. Great job Jakarta, great job. !
Very interesting job this... We had a received massive list of things to cover from the client. Quite over whelming at first, but with a tourist destination as diverse as the the GOLD COAST, I could see why they were keen to capture as much of it as possible.
There is always a solution I say, so we went for it. We dragged together the "A" team keep the the group small and super efficient. Shot with the RED EPIC cameras again, as there was no way of completing over 120+ different shots in 5 days with anything else. Knowing that a lot of our shots were going to end up in the press and bill borads from the 5k Raw files. Which couldn't be done with conventional cine cameras. A couple of GO PRO III's came out to play for those fiddly shots that cannot be got from a normal sized camera. It was one of the jobs, that had everyone running, shooting 15+ hours a day, the producers were run ragged !
Client and Ad agency were fantastic, they just let me to go for it... Very thankful they did, or we would never have been able to complete the list.
Nancy and James. Thanks for the job. Great to work with you guys finally !.
Thank you to Keri. Huge effort !.
Ooooh and forgot to say that the music was created by an amazing Emmy award winning composer Chris Elves.
