2. Solid Steel Radio Show 8/5/2015 Hour 1 - Rob Booth

Solid Steel Radio Show 8/5/2015 Hour 1 - Rob Booth

Solid Steel in association with Serato (8th May) This week we welcome Rob Booth for a special Houndstooth label mix and it's a return for Luke Vibert on Solid Steel with a crazy mash-up mix. You can also listen to his archive mixes from 2003 and 2007 on the new Solid Steel website, plus his mix as Wagon Christ from 2001. http://www.solidsteel.net/ Rob Booth steps up in Hour 1 with a mix celebrating 2 years of the excellent Houndstooth record label, where he heads up A & R and he also runs the well respected Electronic explorations podcast. Another Falty DL Solid Steel intro starts the show and Rob had this to say about his mix; “I wanted to present the mix in two parts, the Solid Steel way. The 1st half showcases repertoire primarily from the 1st eighteen months, no better way than starting with our inaugural record, the Present Tense 12” by Call Super, such an exciting artist culminating with his recent critically acclaimed debut album. Of course I also had to include a few tracks from the Soul Music LP, Paul Woolford’s Special Request moniker, especially the Hackney Parrot VIP, coupled with the polished jungle/techno experimentalism of Akkord and the 160bpm mosaic of Throwing Snow. As the mix enters the 2nd half the emphasis moves to our latest signings, Berlin based Marquis Hawkes, Norwegian duo Soft as Snow and LA duo 18+, who’ve kept us busy this past year with the mix concluding with Jassy Graz on vocals, a personal favourite, was so good to see Ross and Jassy invited to Maida Vale LIVE for Radio 1. I can’t stress enough the privilege of being on SS, I’ve been archiving these shows for so long now” The brand new Solid Steel website http://solidsteel.net/ for track lists and new archive shows every week. Electronic Explorations - 352 - Zeitgeber(Warehouse Sessions 013)

Zeitgeber is the duo of Speedy J and Lucy. Both renowned techno artists in their own right, they’ve teamed up together to create a spellbinding album of abstract electronics. As the owner of Electric Deluxe, Speedy J has overseen one of modern techno’s finest imprints. He was there at techno’s beginnings as a DJ and producer, and he continues to stand at its avant-garde, pushing his artists and himself to continue to innovate. The same goes for Stroboscopic Artefacts head Lucy, whose young imprint has never failed to impress in its ambition and output. Lucy has a clear vision of what he wants with his imprint, and across the label’s three album releases you can see that it has been achieved. Zeitgeber marks a new era for Stroboscopic Artefacts. But it’s business as usual for both Speedy J and Lucy, two of techno’s leading lights. [Words: Todd L. Burns]

Electronic Explorations - 296 - Rrose (Warehouse Sessions 010)

"Although Duchamp now offers everything from trench coats to trousers, the core of the collection is very much occasion wear for men who love dressing up, with velvet tuxedos and evening dresses for events from big nights out to a day at the races. The brand has proved to be a huge hit with the wedding market…after all Duchamp is all about the feel-good factor, and what could be more important than feeling good on your biggest day?" ~ Rrose When I came to London last year to join fabric and head the A&R for the artist led label Houndstooth I got dragged down to Hackney Wick for what was going to be a life changing techno event of the rawest level. This happening is what has inspired my series of Warehouse Sessions, where I have reached out to my favourite techno artists and asked them to get inspired by that unique thump thump betwixt concrete sounds that industrialised techno spaces always provoke and provide a suitably banging mix for my Electronic Explorations podcast series. This week I've kicked off another round of mixes lead by Our Circula Sound man Sigha, London resident Ø [Phase], Semantica Records boss and Spanish producer Svreca, Italian producer and co-owner of Repitch Records Shapednoise (One half of Violetshaped) and finally a US producer who has released on Sandwell District & Stroboscopic Artefacts, Rrose. "“I fell in love with techno in Warehouses on otherwise bleak industrial estates. I’ll never lose my fascination with the sound of a kick drum echoing around a huge concrete space. Hopefully this mix captures a little bit of the otherworldly vibe I stumbled across back then.” – Sigha The ‘Warehouse Sessions’ return to ELECTRONIC EXPLORATIONS once again this December after the monumental success of the first batch of 5 mixes in 2012. Truss, AnD, Stormfield & myself, Kangding Ray (EE mix of 2012) and DJ Skirt kicked off the series to mass appeal, so this will now be a once year event, running for 5 consecutive days. Sonic Explorations #001: The Maghreban

Sonic Explorations is a collaboration that was born out of Sonic Router and Electronic Explorations approaching the same artist for an exclusive mixtape; again. Let’s just say it’s something that has happened a lot over the last six years. We decided to join forces on a collaborative project for 2015. This doesn’t mean the end for either party, at this point it just makes sense to pool resources with Sonic Router providing the editorial context for the Sonic Explorations podcasts that will be hosted on Electronic Explorations. #crosspollination READ THE FULL INTERVIEW HERE: http://www.sonicrouter.com/2015/03/sonic-explorations-001-the-maghreban-zoot/ The 1st mix in the series comes from 'The Maghreban' "This is some new and some old stuff that I am feeling" 01. He doesn't really know much about house music at all. Growing up just outside London, around 1990, his brother got him into some of the old hardcore. He still has a few old pirate radio cassettes from that time. He got into drum and bass and hip hop and forgot about dance music entirely. He made some records in some other genres. He bought records in lots of genres - Jazz, Film Soundtracks, World Music, Ska. He gradually became more open minded and started working at some house music. Perhaps this left field approach gives him a fresh perspective on it. -- @zootrecordsuk zootrecords.co.uk www.youtube.com/zootrecords Zoot is curated by Dr Zygote (Strange U/Boot/Black Acre)

Mira Calix – Hiccup Peder Mannerfelt has served for the last decade as one of Sweden’s leading electronic artists. He’s collaborated under the pseudonym The Subliminal Kid with musicians such as Fever Ray, Blonde Redhead and Glasser and remixed the likes of Massive Attack, Lykke Li and Bat for Lashes. In recent years the prolific artist has released three studio albums as part of the experimental classical duo, Roll The Dice. In 2013 Mannerfelt unveiled a new solo direction under his given name, with EPs ‘Come Closer’ and ‘Stockholm Recorded’ via We Can Elude Control. These were followed in 2014 by the succinctly titled ‘I’ and ‘II’ as well as a split EP on Stockholm Ltd with label boss Pär Grindvik. In 2014 Mannerfelt unleashed his debut LP ‘Lines Describing Circles’, a ten track album that was met with approbation by the likes of Juno Plus and Fact Magazine. Alongside his burgeoning new artistic identity came a unique new Live PA, a machine-driven tour de force that he’s since performed at events worldwide, including Berlin’s Atonal and CTM festivals and Bunker in New York. 2014 also witnessed the birth of his label, Peder Mannerfelt Produktion; a channel established by Mannerfelt as a vehicle for his revised production focus, but also as a platform for likeminded artists, such as the highly talented Klara Lewis. Peder Mannerfelt is veteran producer and a singular artist, one at the inaugural stage of a renewed and blossoming solo career. www.soundcloud.com/the-subliminal-kid www.twitter.com/PederMannerfelt www.rollthedicesthlm.com Booking Contact: [email protected] / www.apelago.com photo by Miguel Angel Regalado
